Find Fulfillment in Helping Others

Your presence can make a big impact

The volunteer program at Remita Health is for those who want to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Our volunteers usually make commitments that last from weeks to months, and it typically involves visits during daytime hours. We encourage our volunteers to focus on providing comfort, support, and companionship to patients and their families, wherever they may reside.

If you’re searching for a valuable, heartfelt and rewarding role, and you‘re 16 years of age or older, we welcome you to join the Remita Health volunteer program. Your contribution is vital to our team, and we could not provide the quality care to our patients and their families without you.

Volunteer Opportunities

The following are examples of the many ways in which volunteers can participate with Remita Health hospice program:

  • Provide administrative support in the hospice office
  • Visiting or sitting with patients
  • Prepare meals
  • Music therapy (play soothing music on piano or guitar), read, play games, or work on arts and crafts projects with patients
  • Provide aromatherapy
  • Provide pet therapy
  • Compile a tribute video with the patient to present as gift to the family
  • Creating special gifts for patients and families, such as holiday decorations, memory bears and pillows using garments once worn by the patient.

Training and Support

Volunteer training is required for those choosing to volunteer with patients and families. Orientation is required for those choosing to volunteer in an administrative position. The Remita Health training program includes instruction in:

  • Remita Health hospice philosophy
  • Goals and service
  • Communications skills
  • Patient and family rights
  • Pain and symptom management
  • Spiritual caregiving
  • Concepts of grief, death, and dying
  • HIPAA regulations

Because of Remita Health, I’ve had the opportunity of learning so much in hospice. It taught me to appreciate my work as a social worker and continue my education in doing what I love. Having this opportunity with you guys has taken me as far as I’ve been able to come.

I can’t thank you enough for giving me the opportunity of volunteering with you guys. Thank you for writing reference letters for Cal State Long Beach and USC. It helped me get accepted to both schools!
